    Minnesota Film and Television Board
    Announces new EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Minneapolis (January 17, 2002) -- The Minnesota Film and Television Board announces that noted local director Craig Rice has been offered and accepted the position of Executive Director. The Board conducted a national search, accepting resumes and applications from across North America. From scores of resumes, seven applicants were interviewed and a final decision was made and voted upon at today's board meeting (January 17, 2002).

Minnesota Film and Television Board President Chan Phillips of Northwest Airlines says, "Many qualified resumes were received, and several of the finalists had exceptional talents, but Craig's combination of talent and experience, as well as his Minnesota roots, led the executive committee to make this recommendation and decision."

Rice directed the Emmy-nominated "HALF PAST AUTUMN" documentary for HBO about the life and times of Gordon Parks; "YO MISTER", a music video for Patti LaBelle and produced the Emmy-nominated "WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN" for ABC about the desegregation of the Los Angeles school system. Rice also produced Prince's "GRAFFITI BRIDGE", as well as several dozen commercials and music videos. Rice has produced in Minnesota, Los Angeles, New York, London and Tokyo.

"Craig has a depth of experience in television and in film, as well as the respect of the local and national creative community" Phillips added. "His leadership skills will help the Minnesota Film and Television Board to continue its work and expand its mission."

"I'm very excited to be a part of the Minnesota Film & TV Board, especially at this critical point in our industry" Craig said. "We have a great challenge in front of us, and I'm ready for it". Craig's first order of business will be to educate and raise awareness about Snowbate, the 10% rebate incentive that Minnesota offers film and television producers, which has been identified by Governor Ventura for possible elimination. Snowbate is used to lure film and television production to the state, and generated over $16 million in spending last year.

The Minnesota Film & TV Board has a staff of 7people, a budget of $1.5 million per year, and works to bring film and television productions to the state. The MFTVB also administers programs such as the Minnesota Independent Film Fund, the Jerome Screenwriter's Mentorship Program, and the D. L. Mabery Award.

The Minnesota Film & TV Board's mission is to build and promote the commerce and art of the moving image industry in the State of Minnesota. The Minnesota Film and TV Board is a unique public/private partnership and the only non-profit state film commission in the United States.
