Memorial services and fund for filmmaker Joe Sweet

On Friday, October 4, 2002, the Twin Cities filmmaking community lost one of its most talented, gifted and genial voices with the passing of Joe Sweet.

As a copywriter for the Fallon Worldwide ad agency, Sweet co-created an innovative series of big-budget Internet commercials for BMW directed by such filmmakers as Ang Lee, Guy Ritchie and John Frankenheimer. He wrote, directed and served as cameraman on his debut feature film "How to Kill a Mockingbird," which was produced locally and touched so many people in our community.

Two memorial services will be held in remembrance of Joe Sweet to honor his life and his work:

    Monday, October 14, 2002
    4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
    David Lee Funeral Home
1220 E. Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN
(1 1/4 mile west of interstate 494 off of 394 in Wayzata)
    952.473.5577

    Tuesday, October 15, 2002
    3:30 pm
    Riverview Theatre
    3800 42nd Avenue S. Minneapolis, MN
    612.729.7369

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to a memorial foundation that will be set up in Joe Sweet's name. The memorial fund will provide grants for aspiring filmmakers. Contributions may be sent to:
