The Minnesota Independent Film Fund (MIFF)
For the past seven years, MIFF has awarded three Minnesota filmmakers $25,000 each plus access to a steering committee made up of nationally recognized film industry professionals. This program, still the only one of its kind in the country, has been sustained with funds provided by Northwest Airlines and the McKnight Foundation.
Complementing MIFF is the Jerome Screenwriting Mentorship Program, which pairs a successful screenwriter with each MIFF winner. 2000 mentors were Patrick Sheane Duncan (MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS) and Robert Caswell (A CRY IN THE DARK). Mentors for 1999 winners were Barry Morrow (RAIN MAN), James Schamus (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON) and Robert Benton (KRAMER vs. KRAMER, BONNIE & CLYDE).
The application process for MIFF is overseen by IFP/Minneapolis (contact: Patrice Snead 612.338.0871). Development services for MIFF-winning projects are coordinated by the Film/TV Board (contact: Georgianna Day 612.332.6493).
The deadline for MIFF 2002 applications is June 21, 2002. |
