MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Film Board announced the winners of the sixth annual D.L. Mabery Film/Video Award competition today, March 25, during the Hollywood 2001 Academy Awards benefit. Two
D.L. Mabery Awards were presented in the categories Best Minnesota Independent Short Film and Best Minnesota Independent Feature Film of 2000.
There will be a screening of the winners during the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival. The films will be screened 1:00pm, Sunday, April 8th at the Heights Theater. Please see festival program for details.
Eleven projects were nominated from over 100 films that received votes from 2000 members of the state's film community. The judges reviewing these 11 projects were: Rob Nelson, City Pages; Jeff Strickler, Star Tribune; Stephanie Curtis, Minnesota Public Radio; Robyne Robinson, UPN9; and Chris Hewitt, Pioneer Press.

The QUIET storm, Scott Sterling
The QUIET storm was made in Minnesota, and due to the superior quality and expertise of the Minnesota film community, the film is already reaching its intended goal- the prevention of teen and youth dating/relationship violence nationally and internationally. The Quiet storm project is one of the most robust and comprehensive youth dating violence prevention awareness programs available to educators and domestic violence prevention advocates. (52 minutes)

Best Minnesota Independent Feature Film
POLES APART, Greg Stiever
Greg Stiever's captivating movie documentary, following women and men of courage on three separate treks to the poles, is a dramatic and profound look at the human spirit and how a journey may be perceived by different individuals. Stiever's movie echoes the emotion of "Hoop Dreams" and the drama of "Everest," and makes a number of critical observations about the world in which we live. (86 minutes)
