The Falls Cinema :: Little Falls, MNThe Falls Theater in Little Falls, Minnesota, opened in 1933. It was built on the site of the Lowell Theater, which had burned down that same year. The theatre's exterior featured a canopy with flashing neon lights, which outlined triangles and were lit in a falling pattern to simulate a waterfall. (The City of Little Falls was built at the site of a waterfall in the Mississippi River.) Black Vitrolite highlighted the canopy and was used inside as trim around the movie display boards. When the theater was built, it was designed to handle talking pictures, which was apparently a modern and unusual feature at that time. The Falls Theater has been remodeled several times. In 1937, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the historic solo trans-Atlantic flight of Charles A. Lindbergh (Little Falls' most famous son), the theater took on an aviation theme. Central to this theme was a mural, which featured an aviator with globe in his hand, an airplane, and a dirigible.
