If you know any French, then you might think that Grand Marais would be a smelly place, but it's not. It's an impossibly cute port town on Minnesota's "ocean," Lake Superior. Home to fishermen and artists who like to eat fish, the sleepy town of 1200 people is about 40 miles south of the Canadian border, which is about as close to Canada as we ever want you to get. (By the way, "marais" means "swamp," but the town acutally smells pretty good.)
